Discussion:
Fedora Core 5 download site locally?

Hi,

FC5 was released a little while ago, and the issue of where to download this has
again come up. As I'm not quota'd for local/domestic traffic I'd much rather
download the iso's via someone who is connected to the APE or WIX (it's also a
whole lot faster..)

Other than ftp.wicks.co.nz which seems hopelessly overloaded right now, does
anyone know of an organisation who is mirroring download.fedora.redhat.com or
has a copy of the iso's? (for i386 and x86_64)

Even more kudos to you if you can find me a local mirror of the daily Fedora
Rawhide ;-)

Thanks,
Reuben

Hi Reuben,

This may help:

Though with varying degrees of "up-to-dateness".

Thanks Craig.

Seems that none of the Redhat mirrors have been updated sinced Redhat-9 (ie
years ago). The other two which look more promising are ftp.wicks.co.nz which
is running very very slow right now (maybe overloaded?), and
[wix|ape].fast.co.nz which are unreachable right now.

I wonder if the lack of mirrors is due to lack of interest, cost, or just no-one
really interested...other Linux distributions seem to be well mirrored though
especially Debian, so I suspect the latter.

Perhaps it's time to put my hand up and say that I'd be interested in talking
with anyone about (me) supplying, organising and administering a server for NZ
only (APE/WIX) accessible downloads of Redhat and any other Linux distribution
if there are any ISP's out there which would be willing to provide rack space
and APE/WIX connectivity.

Thanks,
Reuben

I've just downloaded the DVD ISO from Aussie.
If there are any public FTP sites that people would like me to put it on...

Note: I'm connected direct to Global-Gateway (100Mbit/s) who I think are
peered with APE, otherwise this will count as International traffic for most
people...
