Hi,

I came home last night to find my ADSL router dead. With my multimeter
I found out that it was the power supply (it also smelt of burnt
plastic).

I am having trouble getting a replacement, it is a 5V power supply,
drawing 2.5A. Not in DSE stores. Does anyone have one from a dead
router, or have good ideas to get a replacement?

I can't really complain about the product, it has worked perfectly 24
hours a day for five years now.

Cheers, Bevan

I had to get a 5v 2A supply for a firewall and it was a big pain to get one for less than $50 and that's trade.

I ended getting a power adaptor which was being sold as old stock at trade and it still cost $30

Good luck, hope you find something, and if you find a good source let us know.

Cheers

Yours Tony P

Hi

If you are in Auckland there is a company out Avondale way which
manufacturers transformers, powerpacks etc. I can't remember the name
should be in the yellow pages. They sent the power supply unit I required
to Wellington. If in Wellington a possible location maybe CASA Modular in
Petone.

Cheers
Malcolm

Talking about 6000EV's. I have one with a Failed Firmware upgrade, which
will only boot up into the boot eeprom OS. Anyone know how to reflash the
firmware?

Thanks
Craig

Go here http://www.nzdsl.co.nz/software/asus/Default.htm
Download some firmware.
They include the TFTP server for flashing the firmware.

About a month ago I got a Universal adaptor for $36.50 from
Surplustronics on Queen St for a similar task. It has a rated output
of 2500mA at 5v DC.

Being a Universal, you get to dial up your required voltage between 3
- 7v (2500mA - 1900mA).

Works great for me.

Wow, thanks for the response everyone. It looks like I'll have this
sorted. As luck would have it I'll be in Henderson tonight anyway, so
I'll check out the Warehouse Stationery store. If that doesn't pan out
then I'll head in to town a get one from Jaycar or Surplustronics.

I noticed that my dead power supply has an RF choke in the cable,
would this be important to wire in to one of these replacements?

Well a quick search at Jaycar comes up with this which should do the job.
http://www1.jaycar.co.nz/productView.asp?ID=MP3140&CATID=27&SUBCATID=647

I haven't looked extensively so there might be something cheaper which will be fine and I also noticed some adjustable stuff that fit the range required (but cost more) that you might be interested in. I find the Jaycar search function is a bit crap so you might be better off searching the catalog or by category. I see they now have stores in Wellington, Hamilton and Christchurch so even if you're not in Auckland you're not out of luck (and they do online orders as well I think).

If you're in Auckland Surplustronics (www.surplustronics.co.nz) is probably a good place to look although do check out their store or at least call them and don't just rely on the website.

I also know the Lincoln Road Warehouse Stationery (maybe others) is or was having clearance on a number of switch mode power supplies so you might get lucky. Alternatively, I'm guessing an old AT power supply might work if you add a connector. I'm not sure about whether you it'll be unstable because you aren't drawing enough on the other rails tho so best look into that.

<teehee> See, isn't it a great resource :)

I don't have my ASUS anymore, but I have vague recollections of a key
combination you can press (when connected to the serial port) that forced
the ASUS BIOS to request the firmware.

Have you tried connecting to the serial port and just watching what goes
past (there's usually mention of a key press if it's available).

Have fun!

This doesn't work when you don't have an OS to tftp it to All
thats on it at the moment is the ROM OS which doesn't allow
you to do much as far as I can tell.
Thanks for pointing me towards my own website :-)
Thanks

while its booting. Check out this link for some assistance:
