Jetstream Surf to Plus Transition

Hi everyone,

Just thought I'd share my Surf to Plus transition experiences (in brief).

1. My Jetstream meter changed to reflect 'Next month's plan: Jetstream Plus'
about 3-5 days before the end of my billing month.
2. At 11:30pm on the night before my month end, my speed changed from 64k to
256k.
3. I had to reset my modem to activate the speed change, which eventually
happened at about 1:30am the following morning.
4. My line rate stayed the same; ~1700 kbpsec, however my ATM speed dropped
from ~1650 to ~1350. This is a bit odd since I had thought that changes in
the system would mean that this speed would be higher (esp. for people on
the fringes, as I am).
5. My ping times are pretty much the same as when I was on JS Surf (if not
slightly better!):

Google.com
Surf:
Minimum = 230ms, Maximum = 250ms, Average = 238ms
Plus:
Minimum = 160ms, Maximum = 190ms, Average = 175ms

mail.orcon.co.nz
Surf:
Minimum = 50ms, Maximum = 51ms, Average = 50ms
Plus:
Minimum = 50ms, Maximum = 60ms, Average = 51ms

6. I used 80% of my monthly limit in 2 days :)

I will be performing some experiments on how the over-quota limiting works
in a couple of weeks (nearer to the end of my billing month :) (purely for
research purposes of course! :D ). Based on the fact that I had to reset my
modem to enable the speed change in the first place, I would guess that the
old system which requires a line reset to change the speed is still in
place. Surely telecom will have to change this as with 2meg you can
download a WHOLE lot in just a few days!

I'll keep you all posted on the results (and I'm keen to hear anyone elses
experiences on rate limiting as well).

Sam.

My jetstream was changed over yesterday. The plan change was shown for
most of the last month. I did not have to reset my modem, it just
'happened'. My modem has been 'up' for 29799 minutes according to the
logs. My downstream shows 7616kbps and upstream shows 320kbps.

I requested a change from surf to surf plus on the 18th november.....
billing cycle begins on the 8th of the month (ie, yesterday), so they
had 3 weeks to sort themselves out. My plan was still showing standard
256k surf on the jetstream-usage and mytelecom pages on the 7th, so I
sent them feedback to remind them.

I've since had no response to the feedback (sent via mytelecom), and the
plan has not changed.

I'm just glad I'm not changing to UBS as I wouldn't even be able to call
telecom to complain then.

I didn't even ask them....and they did it to me anyway on November 7th.

My ISP isn't Xtra, either.
