UBS questions

When they were talking about UBS, there was mention that it was a layer 2 service.

In that case, will this allow ISPs to offer connections other then the horrid
PPPoA that telecom have inflicted on us? Any ISPs likly to use this as an
ability to sell multiple IP addresses to customers?

One more thing, what does this list have against signed messages?

Yes Routing Networks over UBS _is_ possible.(Well its possible over FASTIP
as well) It is still PPPoA, but you turn NAT off on your router and set the
real ip addresses on the Ethernet and machines.

When/IF ISP's will offer this is unknown.

Thanks
Craig

Yep, the ISP controls all L3 routing.

Umm....

The routing in FastIP is setup from Radius data from the ISP (well, at least
for Static IPs that are dynamically routed)

Are you saying that Telecom supports additional IPs/subnets in that Radius
data?

Or, is it from using RIP from the CPE?

Cheers

I don't see PPPoA as evil, PPPoA has proven to be reliable, other protocols
(e.g. PPPoE) have many more issues than PPPoA.

The issue has always been NAPT, most of the issues reported to this list
over the years have a common theme of "how do I get this to work through
NAPT".

I think you will see a lot of new functionality arrive via UBS, there are a
few hurdles to leap first tho.

One more thing, what does this list have against signed messages?
It is to do with the cost of Telecom Broadband, many users of this list pay
20c per meg :)

Cheers
