Dudes,

telstraclear are now officially offering ADSL connections in conjunction
with their new homeline rental offers. The plans and prices are pretty much
identical to telecoms ($1 savings as far as I can see) and I *was* pretty
keen to change to telstraclear... but... I found this little ditty in the
fine print on their ADSL page:

From: http://www.telstraclear.co.nz/products/internet/highspeedADSL/:

'TelstraClear HighSpeed Internet plans include both access to the Internet
AND ISP charges through paradise.net. The service will be available via
clear.net in December 2004. If you choose to use any other ISP with your
TelstraClear HighSpeed Internet service, for example by authenticating with
another ISP through your ADSL modem, you will be charged at 20 cents per MB
for any traffic sent or received via this other ISP, up to 12 weeks in
arrears - even if you are within your monthly traffic allowance.'

WTF!!??

I'm certainly not changing now!!

Sam.

In theory it possible to get a rebilled telecom line (WSA) via TelstraClear
but still have Orcon/IHUG UBS on it.

Thanks
Craig

I used to have a lot of time for Saturn......but TelstraClear is
just....Telstra.

If I have to choose between a phone company owned by John Howard or a
phone company majority owned by Kiwis (Telecom).....I'll choose Telecom.
I never thought I'd be saying that.......but there it is.

Yep, I notice that the reinvestment of Telstra's profits into the
parallel network is not happening.
Is that a dead duck now?
Consumers only hope now is the Kiwi Share and the governments
willingness/ability to regulate.

Telstra NZ = Telstra Aust = AT&T US
I know it's expensive setting up and running a modern telephone company
but we're all still getting creamed!
Hey... if I use some electricity, more will need to be generated for
the next customer, but the Telecom's of the world are only renting us
data highways and then telling us we are only able to drive their kind
of cars on those highways.

Telecom is owned by who??
Biff
It used to be majority-owned by American telcos, but they have sold down
their share and - as I understand it - now most of Telecom is owned by
NZ-based shareholders - whether individuals or funds.

This is my understanding at the present time. Shares being trade-able,
it's possible the composition has changed.
