There used to ba a page which i thought was at the address
http://www.nzadsl.co.nz which was run by one of this list's old
campaigners, (Craig someone?) and gave setup hints for various adsl
modems, routers etc.

Trouble is that address redirects to an orcon advertising page

SO
have i got the address wrong, or has the page disappeared?

it was a bit of a pain, I know of quite a few who relied on the nzadsl
"whats my IP" page for their email to work etc, and were rather miffed
about it.

oh well, they're not paying for the service, so I guess it serves them
right.

if you have access to a machine that has php then you can put this in a
file called say - myip.php and then refer to it as

http://www.myhost.blah/myip.php

<?

print ($_SERVER[REMOTE_ADDR]);

?>

either that or use http://www.focb.co.nz/myip.php (NZ site - may bypass
international proxies that could mangle your address) or
http://wibble.focb.co.nz/myip.php (international - may end up with your
isp's proxy address)

and if that doesnt work, then telnet to wibble.focb.co.nz on port 1010 and
you will get your ip address returned.

I use zoneedit for running my DNS (first five TLD's are free), and have
ddclient grabbing the IP from the router's web interface, and updating
the dynamic dns on zoneedit.com. Much better than relying on an external
website that might go down at times and I'm not wasting bandwidth at all
for anyone, or me.

I've also got it updating various subdomains from various locations with
ddclient so I can always find the machine's I'm after.

# /etc/ddclient.conf - config for DSE XH7916

pid=/var/run/ddclient.pid
protocol=zoneedit1
use=fw, fw=192.168.1.2/doc/home.htm
fw-login=admin, fw-password=password
fw-skip='IpAddress_Value-1>'
server=www.zoneedit.com
login=myzoneeditloginname
password=myzoneeditpassword
